The Fourth, Freedom and Stuff I Pulled Outta My Butt...
Posted on July 1, 2011 with 0 commentsHello, World:
Another Fourth of July is upon us in America. I'll be knee deep in History Channel programming, no doubt. My dad's hero was George Washington. He loved that guy. He read everything about him that he could get his hands on. My dad passed away just before Christmas, so I guess I'll be thinking of him this weekend.
So, Freedom. Pretty cool stuff. I like it. Wish it extended to everyone. Wish people didn't abuse the word in an attempt to scare and rile people. Wish it meant more to some people than the right to bear arms. Anyway...
We had a fabulous gig at Shrine NYC this past Wednesday. Cool place, check it out sometime if you're in New York. I love performing with my amazing band. That's when I feel the most free. The stage is a kind of protection for me...I can do whatever I want (short of the obvious illegal stuff) and it's ok because I'm on stage. Things come out of me that I'd never expect. I love that. Who is this person, I think to myself. Is it me? Is it someone speaking through me? Either way, yay. Oddly, I'm more comfortable performing than doing almost anything else. It's a safe place for me. Maybe the safest. Weird, huh? Now, the real world? Life? That scares the crap outta me.
I'd love to get to the beach this weekend, to get my butt into the ocean. But...traffic, crowds, having to squeeze into a bathing suit, those are daunting elements. So, Hello History Channel.
Anyway, Happy Fourth Ya'll! Appreciate your freedom, whatever it means to you. And, for God's sake, as my Dad always admonished me, don't play with fireworks. Let the professionals handle it. They do a much better job, anyway.
Love,
Halley
