BIO

Raised on Long Island NY, now based in Brooklyn, Halley DeVestern burst on the scene in 1997 with the release of her first album, SUGAR FREE, of which Newsday declared, "Had Maria McKee lived up to her potential, this is the record she would have made."  Frequently mentioned in the same category as Joan Osborne, Melissa Etheridge, and Janis Joplin, DeVestern has in fact toured with the original Big Brother and the Holding Company, the band that made Joplin famous.

On tour throughout the Northeast with her own band, DeVestern has sold thousands of CDs with no outside management, label backing or distribution.  (In 2001, Indiegrrl Records [IGR], a short-lived venture of the Indiegrrl music cooperative, planned to make Devestern's LIVE AT THE TOWPATH INN its first release, but IGR's distribution partner failed before the deal could become reality.)
LIVE AT THE TOWPATH INN, a live acoustic set taken from club and radio performances, was released in 2000 and named one of the top 20 CDs of 2000 by The Audio Realm (NWEZ.NET).

Halley's new studio album, SUPERHERO KILLER, was recorded at Kampo Studios in New York City with longtime members of her band and producer Denise Barbarita.  The Celebrity Cafe calls it "an album with female vocals in the same lines of Janis [Joplin]'s rough hewn blues, but with an even more raw and even more edgy quality."  The feminist publication Expository Magazine notes that "[song] titles like "Strangled in the Park" only hint at the territory DeVestern is willing to tread."

DeVestern has been on the cover of Good Times, and appeared in Billboard, Seventeen, CosmoGIRL, The New York Times, Newsday and many other prestigious publications.  MTV Online declared that "major success is inevitable" for DeVestern, whose raw, bluesy vocals have won her opening slots for such blues and rock legends as John Hammond, Jimmy Vaughan, Gov't. Mule, Son Seals and Johnny Winter.
